Thinking of baby names for our son on the way. Something distinctive. Obviously I like Finnish names- particularly Rami. Other suggestions?

If you like them short there a lot to choose from: Sami, Kimi, Harri, Petri, Hannu, Mika, Jari, Jussi, Juha, Arto, Ilpo..

Well, if you like Finnish names, you should check this: http://www.sci.fi/~kajun/finns/male.htm. Not an all-inclusive list, but should give you ideas and you can listen the correct pronunciation too.

I have a good friend named Rami in Helsinki- not that I'd actually be naming my son after him, but I like the name. Sarah has a concern that most people around here won't be able to pronounce the majority of Finnish names- so shorter would most likely be a good idea. I personally very much like Jussi, but it will be pronounced with a hard 'J' here. I've gone my whole life helping people pronounce my name, even at a Catholic high school (I'm not Catholic, it was just a good school- but I was perplexed that the nuns couldn't pronounce what should have been a well known name to them) and I've tried to convince her that it's not a big deal- I'm happy to have a fairly distinct name, even though I have to tell nearly anyone who has my name on a piece of paper in front of them that my name isn't 'Jeremy'. Not a big deal to me- but she thinks it is. Of course, her name is Sarah, so she doesn't know what she's talking about. ;)

@saarab- That's the best/biggest list I've seen yet. Lots of good names! Kiitos. :-)
